The Nails

I heard in a sermon one time, “What a beautiful church building we have.” He spoke of the nicely landscaped grounds, wonderful stained glass windows, and newly installed carpets. Yes, we had a very nice church building. Then, he pointed out the nails. Could anyone see the nails and screws holding it all together? No.

Today I got to help the Youth Pastor for a church near us take back VBS decorations we borrowed from another church a few towns away. Then, we took the trailer we had used to haul the decorations back to a third church in another nearby town. Today I got to be a nail. I wasn’t in front of anyone. I wasn’t teaching a lesson. I didn’t even take a Bible with me. The Youth Pastor and I simply served the body by doing the work. Sometimes things just need to be done behind the scenes to hold the visible programs together.

Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

1 Thessalonians 13

I’m grateful for everyone who has been willing to be the nails and screws. Today was a good lesson for me. I keep thinking about all the things that are done behind the scenes in God’s kingdom. They just need to be done. Are we willing to do the “little” things? Am I willing?

Praise God for the people who are willing to do the “little” things. Praise God for those who serve Him and serve His church.
